Geographers Explore Urban Regeneration in Worcester
Year Eleven Geography pupils recently enjoyed a day of fieldwork in Worcester city centre, investigating urban regeneration around Diglis Basin and the River Severn corridor as part of their GCSE studies.
Taking advantage of the sunny weather, pupils put their classroom learning into practice by conducting land-use mapping and bipolar environmental quality surveys across eight city-centre sites. These activities allowed them to assess changes in the urban environment, considering factors such as noise, litter and the overall quality of the surrounding area.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore how urban regeneration can transform areas of a city, while developing pupils’ understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with managing urban environments. An additional highlight was witnessing community fundraising activity in support of local River Severn flood defences, providing a valuable real-world connection to their Physical Geography studies.
Returning to School that afternoon, pupils began collating and analysing their findings, using the data collected to develop their geographical enquiry and evaluation skills. This practical experience will provide valuable preparation for their January Mock Examinations and the fieldwork questions in GCSE Geography Paper 3.
Well done to all Year Eleven pupils for their excellent attitude, enthusiasm and commitment throughout the day.
