Debating

Co-curricular Debating

Debating is very successful at RGS Worcester, with pairs making it through to the prestigious Oxford or Cambridge Finals and winning Regional Champions for the West in the English Speaking Union Mace competition, amongst other successes.

Over one hundred students debate at RGS Worcester with the Seniors in action in university-run competitions from Cambridge to Durham.

rgs debaters are regional champions for the west midlands.

Debating Society

The Debating Society, split into Lower, Middle and Sixth Form, meets weekly during lunchtime with squad training for competition debaters after school. The Society is fortunate to benefit from the sponsorship of SME Solicitors who kindly lend their expertise and support to our debaters.

Most competitions that we enter involve the British Parliamentary style of debating. British Parliamentary debating is carried out in pairs, with each pair competing against three others.

There is also a real focus on having fun and on learning the key skills that debating develops – how to articulate an argument, how to think on your feet, as well as broadening the basis of your general knowledge.

Debating is a wonderful skill to learn, huge fun to do and available for all RGS pupils.
