Cross-Country Season Gets Off to a Flying Start
The new Cross-Country season got underway last week with the opening round of the English Schools’ Athletic Association (ESAA) Cross-Country Cup at Bromsgrove School, where RGS Worcester runners delivered an excellent set of performances.
Competing in favourable running conditions, the teams enjoyed individual success, with Year Eight pupil Amélie securing victory in the Junior Girls’ race and Year Ten pupil Sam taking first place in the Intermediate Boys’ event.
The Year Seven Boys’ team also continued the excellent form many had demonstrated while representing RGS The Grange last season. Rupert secured an impressive second-place finish, while teammates Jack, Lucas, George and Albert all finished within the top 15. Their combined performances earned the team second place overall, behind Bromsgrove Prep School, securing qualification for the Regional Final next month.
Just a few days later, RGS runners returned to action at the annual Winterfold Cross-Country event. The Junior Girls delivered another strong performance, finishing third overall, while the Junior Boys produced an outstanding team effort, finishing second, third, fourth, 12th and 13th to be crowned overall champions and take home the winners’ shield.
This achievement was particularly impressive given that all the RGS Boys’ runners were in Year Seven, competing successfully against older pupils, including Year Eights from other Prep Schools.
Congratulations to all pupils involved on an excellent start to the Cross-Country season. We look forward to following their progress in the competitions ahead.
Mr Alexander, Second i/c Mathematics and Head of Cross-Country
