Embracing Creativity

Experiencing works of art first hand is an important part of RGS learning.

As well as attending talks by practising artists and designers, museum and gallery visits in the UK are a regular part of the courses that we offer from Year Eight upwards.

‘Open all hours’ Department

Most evenings after school, the Art Department is busy with pupils attending on an ‘open all hours’ basis, but there are specific extra-curricular opportunities such as the biennial Year Eight trip to Oxford museums, weekly enrichment courses available for Sixth Form artists and non-artists and the Extended Project Qualification for Sixth Formers in an aspect of History of Art. For House points, the Christmas Card competition and House Art Cup are highly contested events. ‘The Big Draw’ National Campaign for drawing in October has seen Perrin’s Hall turned into a ‘pop-up studio’.

Links with local Galleries

The School has an active partnership with the Bevere Gallery in Worcester, a regional centre for ceramics. The Bevere Art Awards are given each year for outstanding achievement at GCSE and GCSE Levels. The Bevere Gallery also offers work experience opportunities to Sixth Formers and exhibits work by RGS artists.

The National Art Fund Autumn lectures in Perrins Hall are open to pupils and parents.
