RGS Dodderhill Admissions A Step-by-Step Guide

There are five key stages to the admissions process. We understand the need for flexibility, especially when house completions and relocations are not planned. We guide you through the steps at the right pace for your family.

Step One Visit Us

Step One: Come and Visit

Choose from an Open Morning or visit us on a school day

You will be guided around the School by our wonderful teachers or pupils, who will show you the facilities at RGS Dodderhill, including our Classrooms, Grounds, and dedicated Sports and Forest School areas. You will be able to gain an insight into what life is like here, and you will also be able to meet with our Senior Leadership Team, who can answer any questions you may have.

“charming, wholesome and uncomplicated, this is a small school that thinks big, no more so than since it has the rgs brand propping it up” – good schools guide

we guide you through the steps at the right pace for your family.

How do we assess?

Like you, we want your child to thrive with us, personally and academically. Our assessment process is designed to check we are the right place for your son or daughter. It varies according to the year group your child is hoping to join:

Your child can start the term after their second birthday. We will arrange familiarisation sessions to ensure your child is comfortable with the environment.

Reception, Year One and Year Two

Your child will be assessed informally in reading, spelling and numeracy by the class teacher during the taster day.

Years Three to Nine

Your child will sit an entrance assessment (with English, Maths and Verbal reasoning papers) followed by a short interview with the Head. Entrance assessments are held annually in February, but we are able to consider applications at other times.

Year Ten

In order for your child to settle in and be prepared for the GCSE courses, we strongly advise joining by Year 9 at the latest. However, if you want to discuss your circumstances, please call the Registrar on 01905 778290.  Entrance papers in Maths and English and an interview with the Head are required for entry into Year 10.
