Excitement Builds as Lower School Pupils Prepare for ‘The Hobbit’
RGS Worcester’s Lower School pupils are preparing to bring ‘The Hobbit’ to the stage this June, as this year’s Summer Drama Production takes audiences on an adventure through Tolkien’s much-loved world of Middle-earth.
Directed by Teacher of Drama, Mr Jak Garrity, the production will be performed from Wednesday 17 June to Friday 19 June 2026 and will feature pupils from Years Seven to Nine. Following months of rehearsals, pupils are now preparing to bring the world of Middle-earth to the stage.
Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic novel, ‘The Hobbit’ follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins, a comfort-loving hobbit who is unexpectedly swept into an adventure far beyond the safety of his home. Joined by the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield, Bilbo embarks on a quest to reclaim a stolen treasure from the dragon Smaug. Along the way, he encounters a host of memorable characters and challenges, ultimately discovering courage, resilience and a strength of character he never knew he possessed.
The production promises to be an exciting Lower School performance, with pupils developing their performance skills through characterisation, movement and ensemble storytelling. Rehearsals have already seen Middle-earth take shape on stage, with pupils embracing the opportunity to bring Tolkien’s iconic characters and creatures to life. Members of the Lower Sixth Drama class have also played an important role in supporting rehearsals and co-directing elements of the production, helping to guide and encourage the younger cast throughout the process.
Teacher of Drama, Mr Jak Garrity, said: “It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and creativity pupils have brought to rehearsals so far. ‘The Hobbit’ is such a rich and imaginative story and the cast have really embraced the challenge of bringing this world to life on stage. We are very much looking forward to sharing the production with audiences in June.”
Performances will take place each evening on Wednesday 17, Thursday 18 and Friday 19 June in the Performing Arts Centre. Tickets are now available and can be booked by clicking here.
We look forward to welcoming audiences to the Performing Arts Centre for what promises to be an exciting production.
