RGS Golfers Compete at Long Ashton Golf Club
The RGS Worcester Golf team travelled to Long Ashton Golf Club before Half term to take on Clifton College in what proved to be an excellent afternoon of competitive Golf. With the course in superb condition and bright sunshine throughout the afternoon, the stage was set for an enjoyable and competitive fixture.
The opening RGS pairing of Maisie and Jacob produced an impressive performance. After finding themselves three holes down after the front nine, they showed excellent determination to fight back on the back nine and secure a well-earned halved match. The second RGS pair, Ed and Will, also played some outstanding Golf, demonstrating excellent skill and composure throughout their match and contributing strongly to the team’s overall performance.
The third RGS pairing of Will and Will continued the high standard set by their teammates. Playing confidently and consistently, they performed well against strong opposition and represented the School excellently. The match was played in a fantastic spirit, with all players displaying skill, commitment and sportsmanship. It was a highly enjoyable afternoon and another valuable experience for the RGS Worcester Golf team.
During the half-term holiday, Maisie and Max were selected to represent Gloucestershire at the South West Championships. Unfortunately, Max was unable to attend due to injury; however, Maisie performed superbly and qualified for the National Finals on 22 June following an excellent performance at Came Down Golf Club.
Despite the challenging conditions, which saw the tournament reduced to 27 holes, Maisie showed impressive composure, shooting level par in the morning and one over in the afternoon. She finished 4th overall, narrowly missing out on 3rd place on countback. Her superb scoring, alongside two of her Gloucestershire teammates, also helped secure the South West Schools Team Championship trophy for the Gloucestershire girls.
Maisie is one of just four girls from the region to progress to the National Finals. She will also have a busy summer of competition ahead, including The Sir Henry Cooper Junior Championships at King’s Hill Golf Club in Kent. The Championships attract a strong and competitive field of leading junior golfers under the age of 18.
We congratulate Maisie on this outstanding achievement and wish her, alongside all of our RGS golfers, the very best for their tournaments this summer.
Mr S Davis, Head of Golf and Head of Year Seven
