Young Writers’ Success
RGS has two newly published authors. Robbie MacDonald and James Rhodes in Year Nine were both winners of the 2020 SOS Mini-Saga Competition ‘Hunted’. James and Robbie’s class all entered this competition, which required pupils to devise and write an exciting and gripping adventure story around the theme ‘Hunted’. The story had to be no more than one hundred words. To write a vivid and dramatic story that builds to an exciting climax in just one hundred words is actually a very difficult skill. Every word has to count and every detail must contribute to the story’s effect.
The boys came up with two inventive and original ideas full of suspense and drama. James’s story was entitled ‘Creature’ and Robbie’s, ‘Death Leap’. Both boys have now seen their winning entries published in the SOS Hunted Anthology, where their stories can be read alongside the other winners.
This is a tremendous achievement and the boys have done exceptionally well to make it into the final published collection. We may well be reading the work of future best-selling authors!
When the boys were asked about how they felt seeing their stories in print, James replied: ”It is a shock to see my story in a book but I am very happy.” Robbie said: ”I am very proud of what I have achieved.” Well done boys from all of the RGS community.
