Weaving Workshops Inspire Year Ten Textiles Pupils
RGS Worcester was delighted to welcome former pupil Georgie back to School last Friday, where she led a series of weaving workshops with Year Ten Textiles pupils and shared insight into her creative journey since leaving School in 2020.
Now a graduate of Winchester School of Art, Georgie specialised in botanical weaving during her studies and returned to RGS Worcester to work with pupils across two workshop sessions during the School day. Alongside leading practical activities, she also shared her personal portfolio of textile work, giving pupils the opportunity to explore the development of her creative practice and gain insight into studying Textiles at degree level.
During the workshops, pupils created their own yarn wrapping swatch cards to support their current coursework projects, experimenting with colour, texture and composition while developing practical textile techniques.
Since graduating, Georgie has continued to build her portfolio and has exhibited her work in both local and national galleries. Her distinctive use of colourful yarn applications and woven textile techniques provided inspiration for pupils considering their own creative pathways and future study opportunities.
The visit offered an opportunity for pupils to hear directly from a former pupil working within the creative industries, while also highlighting the exciting pathways that can develop from studying Art and Textiles beyond School.
We thank Georgie for returning to RGS Worcester to share her experience and creative expertise with our pupils and look forward to welcoming her back again in the future.
