‘Society in Motion’ Exhibition Receives Outstanding Community Response
RGS artists have received exceptional praise following their retrospective exhibition ‘Society in Motion’, which was displayed in the Chapter House in Worcester Cathedral over Half term from 14 to 22 February 2026. The exhibition welcomed visitors from across the local community and beyond, offering a unique opportunity to experience the work of emerging young artists within one of Worcester’s most historic settings.
Bringing together previously examined coursework, the exhibition explored themes of movement, identity and change through a diverse collection of artistic responses. Visitors encountered portraiture reflecting personal identity, dynamic interpretations of transport and city life and sculptural pieces demonstrating both technical confidence and imaginative thinking.
Throughout the week, members of the public were invited to leave reflections in a visitors’ comments book, which quickly filled with responses celebrating the maturity, creativity and professionalism of the pupils’ work. Across sixteen full pages of comments, visitors expressed admiration for the standard of the exhibition, with one writing, “Tremendous talent on display here, well done to every single artist, 10 out of 10”, while another commented, “Incredible, I can’t believe this work is done by A Level students, so much promise”. Many visitors returned more than once, with one noting, “What a fantastic display of inspirational artwork. Very talented all of you and a joy to visit and see”.
Several comments reflected surprise at the age of the artists, with visitors remarking upon the confidence and quality of the work on display. One entry read, “I couldn’t believe that these had been made by 16 to 18-year-olds, truly amazing”, while another visitor shared that they had revisited the exhibition during the week, adding that they would happily have purchased prints of the artwork had they been available.
Head of Art, Mrs Liversidge, reflected on the success of the exhibition, noting how rewarding it was for pupils to see their work engage such a wide audience, including visitors to the Cathedral from abroad. Exhibiting publicly represents an important milestone in the artistic journey of Sixth Form students, allowing them to present their ideas beyond the classroom and experience first-hand the impact their work can have on others.
The School extends its sincere thanks to the Dean and Chapter of Worcester Cathedral for once again providing this special opportunity to showcase pupil artwork within the Chapter House.
