Partnerships, Performance and Participation in Action
Over the past two weeks, more than 500 pupils from local primary and secondary schools have visited RGS Worcester as part of a series of Sports Partnership events, culminating in a large-scale Cricket festival delivered by Upper Sixth students at RGS The Grange.
As part of their BTEC Sport course, students applied their classroom learning in a practical setting, leading a Worcestershire Cricket Foundation Key Stage 1 Inclusion Festival for 85 pupils from eight local primary schools, including Stanley Road Primary, Sytchampton Primary and St Barnabas Primary. The event followed a wider programme of partnership activity earlier in the term, which saw a further 427 pupils take part in a full day of Sportshall Athletics and leadership-led activities.
In preparation for the festival, students took part in a specialist leadership training session led by Ben Powers, School Development Manager at the Worcestershire Cricket Foundation. Drawing on their Unit 4 Sports Leadership module, students planned, organised and delivered a series of cricket skills stations designed to be inclusive, engaging and accessible.
Working in small teams, students refined their coaching delivery, developing clear communication, adapting activities to suit different abilities and ensuring a safe and supportive environment throughout. On the day, they led a rotating carousel of activities, guiding younger pupils through a range of challenges aimed at developing fundamental cricket skills while promoting teamwork, confidence and enjoyment.
The festival formed part of the School’s wider Educational Partnerships Programme, delivered in collaboration with the Worcestershire Cricket Foundation and local school partners. These events offer valuable opportunities for younger pupils to experience high-quality sporting provision, while enabling RGS students to develop leadership, organisation and interpersonal skills in a practical setting.
Students demonstrated maturity, enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility throughout, acting as excellent role models for the visiting pupils. The experience marked a fitting conclusion to their course, showcasing their ability to apply their learning with confidence and independence.
We thank all visiting schools and partner organisations for their support and congratulate the Upper Sixth BTEC cohort for delivering such a successful and enjoyable event.
