Outstanding Performances in Senior Mathematics Challenge
Just before Half term, Sixth Form Mathematicians took part in the annual Senior Mathematics Challenge, which is a national competition. They put their problem-solving skills to the test, with 25 esoteric puzzles featuring aardvarks, anteaters and football kits alongside circles, cubes and several appearances of the number 2025.
This year we achieved record-breaking results with more pupils achieving certificates than ever before. A total of 76 pupils gained recognition with Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates.
Most impressively, Lower Sixth student, Sihan Fu and Upper Sixth student Jacob Hartley scored 107 and 113 respectively out of 125 and have been invited to take part in the British Mathematical Olympiad. This elite competition involves a 3½ hour examination with 6 strenuous problems designed to stretch the most talented school pupils from across the country.
Well done to them, good luck for the Olympiad, and well done to everyone who took part in the Senior Mathematics Challenge!
Mr Alexander, Teacher of Mathematics Second in Department
