From Worcester to Boston, a Marathon Achievement
On Monday 20 April, RGS Worcester minibus driver Steve Bradley completed the Boston Marathon alongside blind runner Dave, achieving an excellent time of 3:55:49 and breaking the four-hour mark.
Steve has been guiding Dave since 2018, supporting him to train, compete and complete marathons across the world. What began as a simple offer of support has developed into a strong and trusted partnership, built on communication, awareness and shared commitment.
The Boston Marathon, one of the world’s most iconic races, proved every bit as demanding as expected. The point-to-point course begins with a fast descent before giving way to a series of challenging hills between miles 17 and 21, requiring both physical and mental resilience.
As a guide runner, Steve is responsible for providing constant commentary, avoiding hazards and maintaining a steady pace throughout. Their six months of preparation were clearly rewarded, with both runners delivering a composed and determined performance on race day.
Reflecting afterwards, Steve described the experience as a highlight of his guide running over the past eight or nine years, noting the strength of their partnership and the shared commitment required to achieve their goal.
A particularly special moment came at the finish, where Steve’s daughter Tabby, a former RGS Worcester pupil, had travelled from New York to be there, making the occasion even more memorable.
A remarkable achievement for both Steve and Dave and one the School is very proud to celebrate!
