Former RGS Worcester Pupil Selected for England Red Roses Training Squad
We are delighted to share that former RGS Worcester pupil Haineala (Ala) Lutui has been named in the England Rugby Red Roses training squad for the first time.
Ala studied at RGS Worcester until 2024, during which time she combined her academic studies with being a committed sportswoman. She is now studying Sports and Exercise Psychology at Loughborough University while competing in Premiership Women’s Rugby with Loughborough Lightning. Her selection for the England Red Roses training squad follows an outstanding start to the season, with BBC Sport reporting that the 19-year-old number eight currently leads the Premiership Women’s Rugby league for carries. This sustained level of performance has seen Ala progress from the England age-grade pathway into the senior international environment, marking a significant milestone in her rapidly developing career.
During her time at RGS, Ala was a familiar and influential presence across School sport. She represented the School in Rugby and was also a key member of the 1st Netball team as Goal Shooter and playing in the ‘Superball’ fixture. She was widely recognised for her physicality, work rate and team-first attitude, both on and off the pitch. She was selected for the England Under 19 Rugby team, the Loughborough Lightening team and now she is in the full England training squad playing alongside World Cup winners like Ellie Kildunne MBE.
Headmaster Mr John Pitt commented, “We are absolutely delighted for Ala whom I first saw playing Netball with my daughter for Worcester Netball Club several years ago. She worked incredibly hard during her time at RGS Worcester and made the most of every opportunity. To see her selected for the England Red Roses at such a young age is fantastic, and everyone at the School will be cheering her on.”
We congratulate Ala for her continued progress as she develops her Rugby career at both club and international level while also completing her studies.
