Learning, Opportunity and Community at RGS Worcester
Our Open Morning this Saturday promises to be a vibrant and immersive celebration of everything that makes RGS Worcester such a special place to learn. With RGS Worcester recently celebrating superb summer public examination results and once again retaining its position in the top five of The Daily Telegraph Parent Power rankings, tomorrow’s Open Morning offers families the perfect opportunity to experience first-hand the breadth, ambition and energy that define an RGS education.
From the moment visitors arrive, the School will be alive with activity. Music will provide a constant soundtrack to the morning, with the String Quartet performing in Main Hall, Big Band bringing energy to the Performing Arts Centre, and soloists performing in Perrins Hall. Across the site, Hockey, Netball, Football and Rugby will take to the astro on rotation, while pupils and staff showcase the strength of our Sports provision, from skills challenges and coaching demonstrations to insights into our Athlete Development Programme.
Academic Departments will welcome visitors with a programme of hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and conversation. History, Politics and Debating will transport visitors back to the 1960s with a fully themed, costumed experience featuring debates, timelines, quizzes and a lively photo booth. Mathematics will challenge prospective pupils with an escape-room-style puzzle experience alongside interactive games and digital resources, while Classics will invite visitors to try on Roman armour, test their Latin vocabulary and even write their name in Ancient Greek.
Science will be a particular highlight, with Biology hosting lung and heart dissections, microscopy stations and live investigations, while Chemistry brings colour and excitement through flame tests, rainbow-making experiments, distillation demonstrations and a life-size pH scale. Geography will offer everything from OS map challenges to Fair Trade investigations and world-map games, and Psychology and Sociology will explore big ideas through interactive tests, optical illusions and creative demonstrations of key theories.
Creative and technical subjects will also be showcased throughout the morning. In Design Technology, visitors can see laser cutting in action, explore Greenpower Racing Team and Classic Car Club projects, and watch practical demonstrations, while Textiles will welcome guests into working studios where Year Ten pupils are developing their sketchbooks, alongside a take-away activity. Drama pupils will be rehearsing and sharing devised work, giving visitors a real sense of the collaborative and creative process that underpins Performing Arts at RGS.
Beyond the classroom, families will be able to explore the many wider opportunities on offer, from Combined Cadet Force (CCF) displays and films highlighting the three sections (Army, Navy and RAF), to Sports including Fencing, Rowing and Cricket and activities such as Flying Club. Throughout the morning, visitors will also hear from pupil speakers and attend the Headmaster’s presentation, offering insight into the School’s ethos, values and future-focused approach.
Our Open Morning is designed to reflect the RGS education experience: ambitious yet supportive, academically rigorous yet richly varied and grounded in a strong sense of community. We look forward to welcoming prospective families to discover what life at RGS Worcester would look like for their child.
Families wishing to attend are encouraged to book in advance. If you are not able to visit us tomorrow but would like to see all that RGS Worcester can offer your child, then we would be delighted to welcome you on a normal school day during which you will be given a school tour and meet the Headmaster. Please e-mail our admissions team on admissions@rgsw.org.uk who will be delighted to help.
