Former RGS Pupil Celebrates Historic Henley Success
Former RGS Worcester pupil Zara Povey has achieved an outstanding Rowing success at Henley Royal Regatta, stroking the Reading University Boat Club crew to victory in the inaugural Queen Victoria Challenge Cup.
Zara was part of the Student Women’s Quadruple Sculls crew that secured victory against A.A.S.R. Skøll of the Netherlands in the Final on Sunday 5 July. Reading took control of the race from the start and produced an excellent performance to finish two and a quarter lengths clear of their Dutch opponents.
The achievement is particularly special as the Queen Victoria Challenge Cup is a new event at Henley Royal Regatta this year. As the first winners of the competition, Zara and her crew will become the first rowers to have their names engraved on the trophy.
The victory also marks Reading University Boat Club’s first Henley Royal Regatta success for 40 years, making the result a historic moment for the Club as well as a superb individual achievement for Zara.
Following this success, Zara has now been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships later this month, where she will row in the quadruple sculls. Everyone at RGS Worcester congratulates Zara on this exceptional achievement and wishes her every success as she represents Great Britain on the international stage.
