Chamber Choir Performs at St Richard’s Hospice Lights of Love Service
On Friday 21 November, the RGS Worcester Chamber Choir was honoured to perform at the annual St Richard’s Hospice Lights of Love service in Worcester Cathedral. This event, held each year, acts as a moment of reflection and remembrance, bringing together families, friends and the wider community to celebrate and commemorate loved ones.
This year, the Choir presented a programme of music with three contrasting pieces. They opened with Who is Silvia? by jazz pianist George Shearing, followed by a particularly poignant performance of Billy Joel’s And So It Goes, which featured expressive solos from Ozzy Beswick and Emily Jackson. The set concluded with John Rutter’s Candlelight Carol, accompanied by pianist Sihan Fu, a piece that will also feature in the School’s forthcoming Carol Service. The choir’s thoughtful interpretations, supported with sensitivity by Mr Wilderspin on the organ, offered moments of stillness and resonance for all who attended.
The Lights of Love campaign is a significant part of St Richard’s Hospice’s work, with hundreds of dedicated names displayed around the Christmas tree at St Andrew’s Spire throughout the festive season. Following the evening Cathedral service, attendees gathered for the annual light switch-on at the Spire before enjoying refreshments at the Heart of Worcestershire College. The campaign provides an important opportunity for the community to come together, and the Chamber Choir was proud to support an organisation that offers such vital care to those with serious progressive illnesses.
The event once again highlighted the profound role that music plays in collective remembrance, and the School extends its thanks to St Richard’s Hospice for inviting the Chamber Choir to be part of such a meaningful occasion.
