French Language & Culture Come to Life in Montpellier
During October Half term, RGS Worcester pupils travelled to Montpellier in the South of France for a language and cultural visit, combining daily French lessons with opportunities to explore the region’s history and heritage.
Throughout the week, pupils attended French classes each morning, developing their speaking, writing and comprehension skills in an immersive environment. Their classroom learning was complemented by a programme of cultural visits, including underground caves, the medieval village of Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and a local aquarium.
Guided tours of Montpellier and its art museum provided further opportunities to explore the city’s heritage and academic traditions, while a train journey to the nearby harbour town of Sète gave pupils the chance to discover the French coast.
Despite some unsettled weather at the beginning of the visit, conditions improved as the week progressed. Pupils also enjoyed experiencing authentic French cuisine in local restaurants each evening, providing further opportunities to immerse themselves in French culture.
The trip offered pupils valuable experience of using French beyond the classroom, strengthening their language skills and developing their understanding of French culture.
