Director of Sport Reflects on a Successful Period for Sport
It has been a very positive end to the Lent term and start to the Easter holiday for sport at the School, particularly within the Rugby programme. Director of Sport, Mr Fowles, reflects on this successful period and the momentum it brings into the Trinity term.
Superball
This period began with an excellent Superball victory against King’s School Worcester. In front of a packed University Arena with a record crowd of 1,600 people, both the 1st and 2nd VII delivered high-quality performances, setting a strong tone for the weeks that followed.
Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens
That momentum continued at the Rosslyn Park National Schools Sevens, where the Under 18 and Under 14 sides both progressed to the quarter-final stages, securing top-eight finishes at a national level. Across the tournament, pupils demonstrated resilience, attacking quality and a strong sense of teamwork against high-level opposition.
The competition also provided valuable opportunities for the Under 16, Under 13 and RGS The Grange teams, while the Senior Girls gained a great deal from their experience in a competitive group.
Sedbergh National Tens
The School made its first appearance at the prestigious Sedbergh National Tens Tournament, competing against a small number of leading rugby schools from across the UK. Despite challenging conditions and a number of unavailable players, the squad approached each fixture with determination and represented the School with great commitment throughout.
Director’s Reflections
Mr Fowles commented: “I am extremely proud of the progress made across the Sports programme. The commitment of the players, alongside the dedication of the Heads of Sport and their wider coaching teams, continues to drive standards forward.
More broadly, this progress reflects the support of the wider School community and provides a strong platform as we look ahead to further Sporting success in the Trinity term.”
