Senior Drama Production Reveal Sparks Excitement
Before the Half term break, RGS Worcester pupils gathered in the Performing Arts Centre for the eagerly anticipated reveal of the School’s next Senior Drama Production, Machinal, which will take to the stage in March 2027.
Directed by Teacher of Drama, Mr Jak Garrity, the production will bring together pupils and students from Year Ten to the Upper Sixth to explore this powerful and thought-provoking piece of theatre.
Written in 1928 by American playwright and journalist Sophie Treadwell, Machinal was inspired by the real-life case of Ruth Snyder, whose story became the basis for a compelling exploration of societal expectations, personal freedom and individuality. The play is widely regarded as a landmark work of Expressionist theatre, renowned for its distinctive dramatic style and challenging themes.
As a set text for A Level Drama, Machinal will also provide Sixth Form students with a valuable opportunity to explore the play from a performance perspective, deepening their understanding of the text and supporting their examination preparation. For younger pupils in Key Stage Four, the production will offer an introduction to Expressionist theatre and its distinctive dramatic techniques.
The production promises to provide an exciting creative challenge for our young performers, offering opportunities to explore character, storytelling and innovative theatrical techniques.
We look forward to seeing the production take shape over the coming months and sharing further details, including performance dates and ticket information, nearer the time.
Meanwhile, preparations are well underway for this term’s Senior Musical Production, Disney’s Frozen, which will take to the stage in the Performing Arts Centre from Monday 23 to Friday 27 November. Featuring a talented cast, band and backstage team of pupils and students from Year Ten to the Upper Sixth, the production promises to bring this much-loved story to life. Performances begin at 6.30pm, with doors opening at 6.00pm. Tickets are now on general release and we warmly encourage the RGS community to come along and support our performers.
