Mahjoor Innovation Centre Opens at RGS Worcester
RGS Worcester was delighted to officially open the new Mahjoor Innovation Centre this week, a flexible and forward-thinking learning space designed to support collaboration, creativity and problem-solving across the School.
The Centre, which includes a ‘classroom of the future’, was officially opened by former pupil Fasha Mahjoor, whose generosity, vision and continued connection with RGS Worcester have made the project possible. Fasha attended RGS Worcester as a boarder in the 1960s and 1970s before qualifying as an architect and becoming an entrepreneur in the USA. He was joined by members of his family and friends from his school days for the special occasion, which coincided with RGS Worcester hosting a major global education summit welcoming educators and school leaders from around the world.
Located in the Pullinger Building, the Mahjoor Innovation Centre has been designed as a multi-purpose environment for lessons, project-based learning, presentations, independent study, staff development, Educational Partnerships and special events. With adaptable layouts, movable furniture, contemporary design and integrated technology, the space reflects the changing ways in which young people learn, work together and develop ideas. The Centre is the result of a six-year project working with TaskSpace, a company which designs innovative educational spaces in leading universities and schools.
While technology is an important part of the Centre, the space has been designed around much more than digital tools. It will help pupils develop the skills they will need beyond School, including communication, collaboration, creativity, confidence and problem-solving. The Centre will also support cross-curricular work, allowing pupils to think independently, share ideas and approach challenges in new ways.
Headmaster, Mr John Pitt, said: “The Mahjoor Innovation Centre represents a significant investment in the future of learning at RGS Worcester. We are incredibly grateful to Fasha Mahjoor for his generosity, vision and continued connection with the School. It was a pleasure to welcome Fasha and his family back to RGS Worcester to open the Centre which bears his name. This inspiring space has been designed to encourage collaboration, creativity and innovation, helping our pupils develop the skills and confidence they will need for the future. It is a space to be used both by pupils during lesson time and by staff at breaks and lunchtime, which is a unique idea demonstrating how we all work together at RGS for the benefit of all.”
Fasha Mahjoor said: “Innovation begins with curiosity, but it flourishes when young people are given the confidence to explore, create, and dream. I hope this Centre helps inspire generations of RGS pupils to do exactly that. RGS Worcester gave me far more than an education; it gave me confidence, lifelong friendships, and opportunities beyond my imagination. This Centre is simply my way of saying a massive thank you.”
The opening of the Mahjoor Innovation Centre forms part of a wider programme of investment across RGS Worcester, including recent improvements to the Sixth Form Centre, Lecture Theatre, Perrins Hall, Eld Hall and Flagge Meadow Pavilion.
Together, these developments reflect the School’s continued commitment to providing outstanding learning environments while remaining true to its ethos of ‘Cherishing the Past. Looking to the Future.’
We are extremely grateful to Fasha Mahjoor and his family for their generous support and look forward to seeing pupils, staff and visitors make full use of this inspiring new space in the years ahead.
