A Fond Farewell
In this week’s RGS Times, we continue our fond farewells to colleagues who are leaving RGS Worcester at the end of this term. We thank them for their hard work, care and commitment to the School and wish them every success for the future.
Maria de Risio, Teacher of Spanish
Maria de Risio leaves RGS Worcester after four years in the Modern Foreign Languages Department, where she has shared her passion for French, Spanish and Italian with warmth, humour and great care for her pupils. Maria has supported the languages trips programme, helped re-establish exchanges and developed outreach opportunities that place RGS pupils at the heart of language learning. We thank Maria for her energy, kindness and commitment, and wish her every success in her new role.
Helen Hale, Teacher of Chemistry
Helen joined the Chemistry Department having moved back to the mainland from Jersey and brought with her a wealth of knowledge and considerable teaching experience. Her expertise and enthusiasm for her subject ensured she made valued contributions to the Department throughout her time at RGS.
Beyond the classroom, Helen gave generously of her time to school life. She was actively involved in the CCF Army Section and supported the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, commitments that took her from the tops of mountains to the Isle of Man.
Helen now leaves us to take up a post at a Sixth Form College, where she will be able to focus on her A Level teaching, the Key Stage of which she is most passionate. We are grateful for all that she has given to the Chemistry Department and to the wider School, and we wish her every success and happiness in this exciting new chapter.
John Kelly, Teacher of Learning Development
John Kelly joined the Learning Development team, moving across from RGS Springfield, where he was a Year One teacher. With his varied career in the UK and overseas, alongside previous experience as an Assistant Clinical Psychologist, John brought valuable insight and care to his work supporting pupils. He quickly became a valued member of the team. We thank John and wish him every success for the future.

Chris Gemmell leaves RGS Worcester as Professional Rugby Coach to take on an exciting new coaching opportunity at Bradford Bulls ACE College. Although Chris has been with the Rugby programme for a relatively short time, he has made a significant impact and quickly become a valued member of the team. His passion for Rugby, commitment to player development and professional approach have been clear throughout. Chris has also built an excellent rapport with pupils, students, parents and staff, both through his coaching and his role as Assistant Head of Year. We thank Chris for his hard work and contribution to RGS Worcester and wish him every success for his new post, returning North to his family.
Dominic O’Reilly, Professional Sports Coach
Dominic O’Reilly joined the Sports Department in 2024 as a Sports Graduate, bringing with him valuable Football and Cricket expertise. We thank Dominic for his enthusiasm, dedication and support of pupils, and wish him the very best for his next adventure.

Megan Power leaves RGS Worcester having made an excellent contribution to the Sports department and particularly bringing her experience to bear on the Girls’ Cricket programme. She has brought energy, expertise and enthusiasm to her coaching, supporting pupils with their technical development while developing their confidence and enjoyment of the game. Her positive impact on the girls’ progress over the past two seasons has been clear to see. We thank Megan for all she has given to Sport at RGS Worcester and wish her every success with her next venture playing Cricket in Australia.
