Confidence and Variety at Year Eight Teatime Concert
On Tuesday this week, the Year Eight Teatime Concert brought a varied programme of music to Main Hall, with pupils performing confidently across a wide range of styles.
The concert featured music from Baroque and classical works through to contemporary pop and musical theatre. Vocal performances were a particular highlight, with Ellie Gutteridge delivering Colours of the Wind from Pocahontas, Vienna Whale performing Burn from Hamilton, and Monae van Vliet singing She Used to Be Mine. Sophie Cruz also impressed with a confident voice and guitar performance of Tim McGraw.
Instrumentalists contributed a strong and varied programme. Freya Murphy opened the concert on flute with La Vénitienne, before later returning to the stage on violin to perform Sarabande in G Minor, demonstrating impressive versatility. Zach Parker performed The Deserted Garden on trumpet, while Noah Morgan gave a confident cornet performance of 633 Squadron. James Walter, playing trumpet, was joined on stage by his father Mr Alex Walter, who together performed Mr Walter’s own composition A Little Etude.
String and piano performances added further depth to the programme. Peter Stephen performed Habanera from Carmen on viola, while Charles Baynon gave a thoughtful piano performance of Worcester-based composer Ben Crosland’s piece View From a Window. Jack Watts brought a contemporary touch to the concert with a guitar performance of Morning Glory.
Pupils performed with confidence and reflected the breadth of talent within Year Eight and the enthusiasm shown across Music. Well done to all pupils involved for delivering such an enjoyable afternoon and thank you to parents and staff for attending and supporting the pupils.
