Racing Through the Seasons at Mallory Park
Battling rain, hail, snow and high winds, Year Seven pupils took part in the GreenPower F24 test day at Mallory Park on Tuesday 25 March in what proved to be exceptionally challenging conditions.
While the circuit is well known for testing driving skill and engineering performance, the conditions proved to be the defining challenge on this occasion.
Despite this, the team’s enthusiasm never dipped. The RGS Greenpower team worked together, pupils supported one another, worked efficiently in the pit lane and remained focused on testing their hand-built electric car on a professional circuit. From presenting the car at scrutineering, to adapting their driving on a slippery track and managing driver changes, they approached each part of the day with maturity and determination.
As one member of staff reflected, “Motorsport is as much about resilience as it is about engineering and our Year Seven pupils proved they have plenty of both.”
The day of racing gave pupils the chance to put their learning into practice while working together under real pressure. They returned with greater confidence, a stronger understanding of the car and a clear sense of what it takes to compete in such demanding conditions.
