Year Seven Inspired by Award-Winning Author Tamsin Winter
Following the School’s recent World Book Day celebrations, Year Seven pupils at RGS Worcester welcomed award-winning author Tamsin Winter, who led an assembly and creative writing workshop at the School on Tuesday.
The visit coincided with the announcement that Tamsin had been named Peters Teen Fiction Book of the Year 2026, giving pupils the opportunity to meet the author behind many popular young adult titles.
During the morning assembly, Tamsin spoke about her journey as a writer, sharing how her own experiences as a teenager have influenced the characters and themes within her books. Her reflections offered pupils an insight into the creative process behind storytelling.
The assembly also provided the opportunity to celebrate the winners of this year’s Lower School Poetry Competition, with Tamsin announcing the results to an enthusiastic audience. Congratulations to the following pupils:
1st Place: Syeda Dilaara Alam
2nd Place: Monae Van Vilet
3rd Place: Phoebe Shorter
Later in the day, Tamsin worked with the School’s Pupil Librarians during a creative writing workshop focused on world-building. Pupils explored how authors develop characters and settings, creating imaginative ideas for their own original stories.
The visit concluded with a lunchtime book signing in the Library, where pupils had the opportunity to meet Tamsin, ask questions about her books and have their copies signed.
Reflecting on the visit, Library Supervisor Miss Tustain said: “Opportunities like this are very special for our pupils. Meeting an author helps bring stories beyond the page and reminds pupils that books begin with ideas, creativity and imagination, something we are passionate about encouraging in the Library. Author visits form an important part of the School’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a love of reading during the National Year of Reading 2026.”
