Starting Gun Fires on New Cross-Country Season
The past week has seen the first Cross-Country events of the academic year, with team competitions at Bromsgrove and Winterfold. In the first round of the ESAA Cross-Country Cup, we fielded teams at Under 13, Under 15 and Under 18. Everyone put in good performances and ran strongly, with 8 pupils finishing within the top 10 places in their races. The best team result came in the Junior Girls’ event, where we were led home by Katie Harte (2nd) with Becky Dunnett (6th), Lila Warwick (9th), Milly Palmer (11th) and Molly-Jean Simpson (16th) completing the team. This secured second place overall, narrowly behind Bromsgrove Prep School, and qualification for the regional final after Half term.
Further success followed at the Winterfold Cross-Country, where the Under 13 boys’ and girls’ teams took on the undulating course on a very warm early autumn afternoon. The Junior Girls’ team, bolstered by the inclusion of Amélie Davis-Beard, Jess Weston and Julia McKenna, produced an outstanding team effort to claim 5 of the top 10 places. This enabled them to beat 8 other schools to claim the competition victory and bring home the winners’ shield. This was a great way to start the Cross-Country season!
