RGS Golfers Shine in Closely Contested Semi-Final
Following their impressive win over Bristol Grammar School in the previous round of the ISGA Matchplay tournament, the RGS Worcester Golf team travelled to Gaudet Luce Golf Complex on 4 November for the semi-final against Clifton College.
England golfer Maisie Whittall set an excellent early standard. Playing off a +3 handicap, she delivered a commanding performance to secure a 6&4 victory in the opening match, giving RGS the ideal start. Clifton responded strongly in the second pairing, with Max Wesley facing tough opposition and ultimately falling 4&3 to level the scores.
With the contest finely balanced at one match each, the result came down to the final pairing, where Ciaran Hession-Wilson was locked in a closely fought battle. After going two down, Ciaran showed impressive composure to pull himself back into contention, applying sustained pressure throughout the back nine. By the 18th hole, the match was tied, setting up a tense conclusion.
Despite Ciaran’s resilience, it was the Clifton player who held his nerve on the final green, sinking a decisive putt to secure victory and a place in the area final.
Well done to all three RGS golfers for their excellent play and sportsmanship in tricky autumn conditions!
Mr Stuart Davis, Head of Golf
