Rapha’s Sporting Commitment Shines Through
Year Ten pupil, Rapha Rea, has continued to demonstrate his sporting talents with achievements in both Golf and Cricket this season. Earlier in the year, Rapha secured victory at the County Golf Championship in Stourbridge with a score of 83, a performance that earned him qualification for the prestigious Midlands Golf Union Champion of Champions tournament.
This was an opportunity Rapha had been eagerly anticipating. However, in a clash of commitments, the tournament coincided with a significant fixture for his Cricket club, Barnard’s Green, who were competing in their Cup Final at Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s New Road ground. With Cricket being Rapha’s sport, he made the difficult decision to play for his team.
Reflecting on the day, Rapha explained, “I was really sad that I wasn’t able to play in the Golf competition as I had been looking forward to it since I qualified. Playing at New Road Cricket ground was an unforgettable experience. Walking out onto the pitch and being part of the action there was a real privilege and something I’ll always treasure.”
Opening the batting for Barnard’s Green, Rapha made the most of the occasion, scoring an unbeaten 32 runs as his side chased down their target of 99 to secure the win. It was a special moment for him, particularly having watched professionals play on the very same ground.
Headmaster, John Pitt, commented, “I happened to see Rapha help his team reach the final with a fine batting display in the semi-final and so I knew he had such a difficult decision to make. That he opted to support his team is testament to his commitment to them and well done to him for batting so well in the final. It has been great to see his Cricket and Golf develop to such a high level over the recent season and it all bodes well for the future for him, his school team and his club. Well done, Rapha!”
We congratulate Rapha on his continued sporting success and look forward to seeing him build on his achievements in both Cricket and Golf in the future.
