Exploring Ecosystems Beyond the Classroom at the Botanical Gardens
Over two days last week, Year Eight pupils enjoyed an enriching visit to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, which supported their current work on the Ecosystems unit. Blessed with fine weather, the pupils approached the day with energy and enthusiasm, making the most of the opportunity to learn outside the classroom.
The visit provided a valuable chance to practise key geographical skills such as orienteering, while also drawing on cross-curricular links with Mathematics. Naturally, the playground remained a popular stop during lunch, giving everyone time to relax and recharge.
A memorable aspect of the trip was discovering more about the Gardens’ ambitious five-year plans to redevelop the glasshouses, supported by an exciting lottery bid. The combination of learning, exploration and enjoyment made the visit a thoroughly rewarding experience for both pupils and staff.
