Michaelmas End of Term House Report
This year, we have welcomed Miss Morris and Mr Pardoe as Leaders of Whiteladies and Ottley respectively, to our House team. Both started September keen to make an impact in the first event of the academic year, the House launch event of the RGS Run, with Sixth Formers and staff taking on the gruelling track around the School site. Elgar made an excellent start to the House competition, taking an early lead with victories in the boy’s event and both staff events, with Whiteladies winning the girl’s event.
The European Week of Languages included the annual Petanque competition, always hard fought, the honours were split across the Houses as Ottley took victory in the Seniors, Elgar in the Inters and Wylde in the Juniors respectively.
Elgar continued to storm forwards, extending their lead at the top of the table with victory in Inters Badminton, but Wylde fought back with victory in the Staff event and a clean sweep in the Seniors competition, and Elgar and Wylde shared the top spot with the highest number of pumpkins carved in our half term competition.
In one of the closest competitions in recent times and with very few points separating the Houses, Ottley was not to be outdone, securing victory in Junior Chess and notable second place finishes in Senior Chess and Poetry, with Wylde and Elgar taking first place in these competitions and Whiteladies was able to claw back some points with victory in the Junior Cipher challenge.
As the race for the Michaelmas Cup entered its final stages, the House Hockey and Rugby competitions provided the perfect opportunity for full participation across the Houses. With Elgar having been in the lead since the start of the term, all four houses entered the final week with the chance of seizing victory due to the number of points to still be decided. Elgar continued to dominate, securing first place in the Juniors and second place in the Inters. Whilst in Hockey, Wylde and Ottley shared the top spot in the Juniors, and Whiteladies secured first place for Year Ten.
On the final day of term, the Christmas Jumper Competition added some festive fun to the proceedings, with Wylde just securing the top spot, and most importantly, lots of money being raised for charity.
Now for the Michaelmas overall standings:
4th = Whiteladies (42 points)
3rd = Ottley (48 points)
2nd = Wylde (51 points)
1st = Elgar (56 points)
