International Performance and Festival Success for Year Seven Pupil
We are pleased to celebrate the recent achievements of Year Seven pupil Iona Laidler, who performed at the British Flute Society Performance Competition, held at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, before going on to enjoy further success at the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival.
Competing in the School Performer category against musicians up to two years older, Iona delivered a confident performance of Suite Antique by John Rutter. Her playing was warmly received by the adjudicators, who praised her “beautiful” tone, expressive interpretation and strong stage presence. Performing first in her category, Iona approached the occasion with composure and maturity, gaining valuable feedback to support her continued development. She was accompanied by RGS Music Teacher Mrs Silk, who supported her performance on the day.
Reflecting on the experience, Iona said: “It was nerve-racking performing in an international competition, especially playing first in my category, but I really enjoyed the experience and listening to the other musicians. I had some really positive feedback from the adjudicators and am looking forward to putting their advice into practice.”
Building on this experience, Iona went on to achieve an excellent set of results at the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival. Her performances included Gold with Honours in the Advanced Woodwind category, Gold for Intermediate Singing, Silver with Honours for Year Seven Musical Theatre and Bronze in the Marian Baker Cup.
In recognition of her performances, Iona was nominated by the adjudicators to receive the trophy for Best Advanced Woodwind Solo of the Festival and was invited to perform at the Gala Anniversary Concert.
We congratulate Iona on these achievements and look forward to following her continued progress in Music.
