Greenpower Team Race to Success at Goodwood International Final
On Sunday 12 October, the 2025 Greenpower International Final at Goodwood Motor Circuit provided the ultimate test for the RGS Greenpower team’s extensively upgraded car. Excitement was high as 13 pupils, accompanied by DT teachers, set off at 5.00am, eager to put their newly redesigned machine through its paces on one of the most iconic tracks in motor racing.
Arriving just after 8.00am, the team immediately prepared the car for scrutineering and were pleased when it passed after a final brake adjustment. With advanced carbon fibre panelling, a new carbon rear axle and a comprehensive weight-saving and aerodynamic package, the car looked impressive as drivers took to the circuit for practice laps to test the setup and familiarise themselves with the track.
The first race, driven by Eleanor, Kate and Noah, began under overcast skies. Although a red flag incident midway through limited the distance the team could achieve, the car ran smoothly throughout and secured an excellent 14th place out of more than 80 teams, confirming the effectiveness of the season’s development work.
After lunch and doughnuts, the team enjoyed the traditional grid walk, meeting competitors and soaking up the vibrant atmosphere of the wider Greenpower community. In the second race, Ollie, Scarlett and Ellie delivered an excellent drive, running as high as 11th before an unexpected late-race battery issue. Despite the setback, the team showed maturity and composure to finish 21st in a highly competitive field.
At the end of the event, the RGS team were delighted to finish 16th in class overall based on their best race distance. Exhausted but proud, pupils returned home celebrating a successful season of innovation, teamwork and engineering progress. The experience gained at Goodwood has set a strong foundation for next year’s design, and the future of the RGS Greenpower team looks very exciting indeed.
Congratulations to all students involved and sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers who made the season possible.
