Former Students Compete for GB in Europe and at World Finals
RGS Worcester rowers continue to excel on the national and international stage, with former students Olivia Hodgson and Lucy Whiteley representing Great Britain at major events this term. In October, Liv competed at the Under 19 Beach Sprint European Championships in the Mixed Double. She placed fifth in the time trial before winning her knockout race against Portugal. Despite a narrow loss in the quarter finals by just two seconds, Liv finished sixth overall, an excellent result at a high level of competition.
Liv and Lucy have now both been selected to race for Great Britain at the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, taking place in Antalya, Turkey, from 6–9 November. Liv once again races in the Under 19 Mixed Double and Lucy will compete in the Under 19 Women’s Double, marking another exciting moment for RGS Worcester Boat Club on the international circuit. Their selection follows a demanding year of coastal racing and training across the UK.
Head of Rowing, Mr Tim Messent, said: “Liv and Lucy have worked incredibly hard throughout the season! We are extremely proud to see two RGS athletes representing Great Britain at the World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals, their achievements continue to raise the profile of Rowing at RGS Worcester and we wish them the very best of luck in the next stage of competition.”
Alongside Liv and Lucy’s international representation, former student Zara Povey continues to perform strongly through the GB Trials pathway. Zara was 10th at the GB Rowing Seniors Trials and the fastest Under 23 rower. We wish all three rowers every success and look forward to sharing further updates from Turkey and from the trials programme.
