Collaboration and Innovation at the RGS EdTech Study Tour
On Tuesday 14 October, RGS Worcester was delighted to host 18 visiting teachers, school leaders and education professionals for a national EdTech Study Tour, led by Director of Innovation & RGSW International, Mr John Jones and Head of Computing and Digital Learning at RGS The Grange, Mr Matt Warne. The day highlighted the School’s commitment to meaningful digital learning and AI, with guests joining us to see how technology is empowering pupils across the curriculum. The tour also showcased the important role of our pupil Digital Geniuses, who support staff and fellow learners and are central to the confident digital culture at RGS.
The morning began with refreshments in Eld Hall before guests were welcomed by Mr Jones and Mr Warne and introduced to the School and its Digital Learning and AI Programme. Delegates then joined classroom tours, visiting a range of lessons from Textiles to DT, Chemistry and PE to observe technology in action and speak with pupils and teachers about their learning. Visitors commented on how naturally pupils engaged with digital tools and AI, noting that technology at RGS is implemented “with purpose, not presence” to enhance progress and creativity.
A roundtable debrief followed, chaired by Ty Goddard of Edtech UK, where guests reflected on what they had seen and discussed the future direction of AI and digital learning in schools. This led into a series of insightful presentations from Bob Usher (LGfL), Phil Hedger (LEO Academy Trust) and Joanne Stone (Discovery Schools Trust) before delegates enjoyed lunch and further conversation with staff and pupils. The visit concluded with a Q&A(I) discussion, focusing on respective experiences with AI in Education.
Throughout the day, guests praised the enthusiasm and expertise of both staff and pupils, with one delegate describing RGS teachers as “intelligent, sparkling and charismatic”. Many also remarked on the strength of the School’s digital culture and the confidence of pupils, recognising RGS Worcester as a leading voice in purposeful and innovative EdTech practice.
We are extremely grateful to all involved in this event, to our Digital Geniuses and to our Support teams for their energy, insight and professionalism in making the day such a success. The Study Tour was a wonderful opportunity to share our work and build connections and we look forward to continuing these conversations as digital learning and AI evolve.
