Fencing Success & International Selections
RGS Worcester fencers have made an excellent start to the new season, securing podium finishes at national level alongside selections to represent Great Britain in international competition.
Over the weekend of Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, Upper Sixth students Issy and Henry travelled to Rickmansworth to compete in the Under 20 British Ranking Competition, an important early-season event ahead of selection for Junior international competitions. Despite both competing towards the younger end of the three-year age category, they produced impressive performances to secure third place in their respective Épée events.
The results followed further excellent news for Henry, who has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Men’s Junior Épée team at the FIE Satellite Tournament in Belgrade on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September. He has also been selected for the Great Britain Under 23 team competing in Sofia on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October.
Year Ten pupil Emily has also received international recognition, earning selection for the Great Britain Under 17 Cadet Épée team for competition in Budapest on Sunday 18 and Monday 19 October.
There was further success for Issy over the summer as she attended British Fencing’s Coach Education training in Stratford and successfully passed her Level 2 Épée Coaching assessment, adding another impressive achievement to her continued development within the sport.
Congratulations to Issy, Henry and Emily on an excellent series of achievements. We wish Henry and Emily every success as they represent Great Britain in the international competitions ahead.
