Excellent Start to the Rowing Season at Worcester Regatta

RGS Worcester rowers enjoyed an excellent start to the new Rowing season at the Worcester Autumn Regatta on Saturday 12 September, securing six victories from seven Finals across an impressive day of racing on the River Severn.

The 800m course ran downstream alongside Pitchcroft, finishing at Sabrina Bridge, with RGS Worcester entering 17 crews across a range of age groups.

One of the standout performances came in the Women’s Junior 16 Double Sculls. Year Eleven pupils Xanthe and Annabelle performed strongly but were narrowly defeated in their semi-final, before fellow Year Eleven pupils Elsa and Isabella produced an excellent performance in the Final to secure victory against Worcester Rowing Club.

The Boys’ Junior 15 Coxed Quad Sculls produced one of the closest Finals of the day, with two RGS crews racing against one another. Very little separated the boats throughout the race, with the result decided only in the final few strokes, guaranteeing another RGS victory.

There was another all-RGS Final in the Junior 18 Coxless Quad Sculls, adding a further RGS victory and demonstrating the strength and depth of the Senior squad.

Lower Sixth students Billy and Fin then combined in the Junior 17 Double Sculls, progressing confidently through their earlier races before producing an outstanding performance in the Final. Executing their race plan with composure, the pair secured victory by four-and-a-half lengths.

Further success followed for Lower Sixth students Amelia and Emily, who secured an impressive victory in the Women’s Junior 17 Double Sculls, while Upper Sixth student Mati completed an excellent day for the Boat Club with victory in the Junior 18 Single Sculls.

With six victories from seven Finals, the Worcester Autumn Regatta provided an excellent opening to the new Rowing calendar and an encouraging indication of the strength across the RGS Worcester squad as attention now turns to the head season.
