Exploring Careers in Healthcare at Malvern College
Fourteen RGS Worcester students recently visited Malvern College for an informative and hands-on Healthcare Careers Day, joining students from Malvern College and The Chase School to explore future pathways in Medicine and Dentistry.
The morning was led by Will and his team from CLEFT Bridging the Gap, who provided valuable insight into the day-to-day experiences of medical and dental professionals. Students learned about the rewards and challenges of these demanding professions, alongside the different training routes, entry qualifications and pathways involved.
The team also introduced students to the important work of CLEFT Bridging the Gap, a charity supporting people born with clefts. Its work focuses on providing sustainable support through training healthcare professionals in developing countries, alongside improving access to surgical care, speech and language therapy and psychological support for individuals and their families.
Following lunch, students put their learning into practice through two interactive workshops. During the Dentistry session, they experienced the concentration and precision required to remove decay from a model tooth before filling and shaping it. The Suturing workshop then challenged students to practise surgical stitching techniques on prosthetic skin, demonstrating the delicate skills required in surgical procedures.
The day provided an excellent opportunity for students to gain first-hand insight into careers in Healthcare, develop practical skills and learn more about the important work undertaken by medical professionals.
Our thanks go to Malvern College for hosting the event and to Will and his team from CLEFT Bridging the Gap for delivering such an engaging and informative day.
