Celebrating Unity and Achievement at the RGS Commemoration Service
On Tuesday, all four RGS Schools joined together in Worcester Cathedral for the annual Commemoration Service. The Service is an opportunity for the Family of Schools to mark our long history, express our gratitude to our Founders and Benefactors, and celebrate all that our pupils achieve.
RGS Worcester pupils from Years Seven to Ten and the Lower Sixth Form walked from the School to the Cathedral and were joined by fellow pupils from RGS Dodderhill, RGS The Grange and RGS Springfield.
The Revd Canon Dr Stephen Edwards from Worcester Cathedral led the service, which included a reading and prayers read by pupils representing the four Schools.
An address by the Chair of Governors and Guest of Honour, Mr Andrew Greenway, was given. Andrew Greenway was appointed Chair of Governors in December 2023. He joined the Board of Governors in 2015 and served as Chair of the Education Committee as well as on a number of other Governors’ Committees, bringing his wealth of knowledge and experience. Andrew has also been Chair of the RGSW & AOS Foundation. He has made a very significant contribution as a Governor and Trustee to the four RGS Schools.
Executive Headmaster of The RGS Family of Schools, John Pitt, said: “Andrew told a lovely anecdote about his time at school and also recounted his four children’s memories of RGS Worcester, including the lifelong friendships they made at the School. He told us about his own life and experiences, and encouraged the pupils to seize every opportunity and to try to give back to their communities. The pupils enjoyed his talk which clearly demonstrated the ethos of RGS Worcester and all that we are striving to achieve together.”
Our grateful thanks go to the Dean and Chapter for continuing to support our Commemoration Service in Worcester Cathedral. This is especially appropriate since RGS Worcester was originally founded in the Cathedral’s precincts in around 685 AD.
Thank you also to our excellent readers and to our very talented choirs, whose final modern rendition of Abba’s ‘Thank You for the Music’ perfectly rounded off the Service.
