Creativity and Celebration at the Creative Arts Festival
On Monday, we welcomed parents and pupils to the RGS Creative Arts Festival to join us in celebrating the creative talent at the School.
Visitors were welcomed to the evening by the String Quartet as they entered through the Performing Arts Centre, perfectly setting the tone for the evening ahead. As visitors moved through to the picturesque setting of ‘Long Walk’, Lower School pupils recited their English Anthologies for guests to hear. Drama extracts from ‘Treasure Island’ were also performed in the Quad. In the Performing Arts Centre, Sixth Form students staged compelling extracts from ‘The Crucible’ to rapturous applause from the audience whilst parents and visitors enjoyed refreshments. This year saw Dance displays perfectly choreographed and performed by pupils from Year Seven. In between performances, visitors were invited to view exhibitions of Art and Design and Technology at A Level in Eld Hall and for GCSE in Perrins Hall.
The stunning Art work had been judged by Mr and Mrs Taylor, owners of the Bevere Gallery, which has had a long-standing relationship with RGS Worcester. Alastair and Kim Taylor very kindly award Prizes each year after they review all of the work. The work by Ella Snow (A Level) and Hope Bradley (GCSE) stood out for them and won the Awards this year. We are very grateful to the Taylors for their support.
In Design and Technology, the pupils’ work celebrated the variety of projects and practical work undertaken in the Design Centre over the past year; including an extendable dining table. Also on display were digital portfolios to show the inspiration, design journey and research behind finished designs. This year, the Prep Schools participated with Art work from RGS Springfield and RGS The Grange pupils exhibited in Perrins Hall, providing the chance for the younger pupils to showcase their work. Four pupils from RGS Springfield and The Grange, as well as the Springfield Hand Chimes Group, also performed Music solo pieces beautifully in Perrins Hall.
The Wind Band and Intermediate Strings both performed outside in the Quad, not to be deterred by a slight spot of rain between their two performances. Senior Jazz and the Sixth Form Jazz Combo ‘Noodle Soup’ performed in Stephens Hall for guests to enjoy the Music after viewing the Art installations in Eld Hall.
Audiences applauded as the Headmaster’s Lawn became a catwalk for models to show work produced by RGS Textiles pupils. On display were tie-dye t-shirts from Year Seven pupils, sweatshirt collections from Year Nine, while Year Ten pupils modelled their bodices. Lower Sixth students made and modelled Denim and Coats before the finale saw Upper Sixth students model their final A Level Textiles Examination creations.
Fashion Icon Competition winner Frankie Reed displayed her finished garment, and Lower Sixth Textiles students put on an excellent display of their sustainable creations with more Upper Sixth pieces on display in Perrins Hall.
The evening concluded with a Jazz Café in Main Hall featuring the Big Band and Junior Jazz groups, first playing separately and then coming together for a final piece called ‘The Jazz Police’. The Headmaster closed the evening by congratulating the pupils, staff and parents for such a lovely evening, exceptional work and a celebration of creativity. A particular thanks goes to Mr Batchelder, Head of the Creative Arts Faculty, for masterminding the event.
Thank you to all of our visitors who joined us on a warm, midsummer evening at RGS Worcester to celebrate the many talents and achievements of our pupils.
