Anticipation Builds Ahead of the Severn Shield Hockey Match
Excitement is building at RGS Worcester as the 1st and 2nd XI Hockey squads prepare to face King’s School, Worcester, in this year’s Severn Shield showdown. The fixture will take place at the Worcester International Hockey Centre on Tuesday 14 October, with the 1st XI match starting at 6.15pm and the 2nd XI taking to the pitch at 5.15pm.
The Severn Shield has become a highlight of the sporting calendar, celebrating the skill, teamwork and competitive spirit shared between the two schools. The annual contest offers an opportunity for players to perform at their best in front of an enthusiastic crowd, with pride and school spirit at stake.
Looking ahead to the match, Captain of the 1st XI, Fynn Butler, said: “The Severn Shield is always one of the biggest fixtures of the season, and the whole team is really looking forward to the challenge. We’ve been training hard and are determined to put in a strong performance. Playing under the lights in front of a home crowd always brings something special, and we can’t wait to get out there.”
Head of Hockey, Miss Sally Walton OLY, added: “The Severn Shield is a fantastic showcase of school hockey at its best. Both teams play with great passion, and it’s a brilliant occasion for the players to test themselves in a competitive but friendly environment. The RGS squad has worked incredibly hard this term, and I’m confident they’ll rise to the occasion and make the School proud.”
