An Impressive Evening of Rock and Pop at RGS Live
On Friday 26 September, the third annual ‘RGS Live’ concert – a celebration of rock and pop music, was performed by several talented young musicians from Year Eight to the Upper Sixth Form. The informal concert had both a relaxed feel, with Main Hall in a cafe style (with lots of nachos!), and a professional atmosphere, as all music performed was at a very high standard.
The concert included no fewer than sixteen soloists singing a range of incredible pop and rock music, a beautiful duet of Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’ by Immy Raxton and Daisy Swatton, and brave singer-guitarists Libby Cox and Emily Jackson accompanying themselves singing on guitar! Other talented students played accompaniment, including pianists Sihan Fu and Sasha Penlington, drummer Will Hughes, bassist Thomas Newman – not to mention Drama teacher Mr Garrity rocking it on the electric guitar! There were performances from inspiring student-led bands, including Revolution 9 (Kieran Lilley, Arun Mungur, Will Hughes and Thomas Newman) with their original song ‘Forget About It’. Music ranged from songs by Amy Winehouse to Olivia Rodrigo, The Carpenters to Two Door Cinema Club, and James Bond themes to Vulfpeck.
Overall, the evening was a triumph – Director of Music, Mr Conway, said: “After my first concert at RGS Worcester, I am amazed by the talent, bravery and motivation of the students to put together such an impressive event so early in the year. Every performer should be very proud, and the evening was so much fun!”
After such a successful performance, we cannot wait for the upcoming events – the ever-enjoyable Autumn Concert on Wednesday 5 November followed by Christmas with The Big Band on Friday 5 December, and the School Carol Service at Worcester Cathedral on Monday 8 December.
