1st XI Secure Determined Draw Against MCC

RGS Worcester’s 1st XI hosted the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Flagge Meadow, with the annual fixture ending in a well-earned draw. The fixture remains an important date in the School’s Cricket calendar, giving pupils the opportunity to test themselves against one of the most historic clubs in Cricket.

In usual fashion, the MCC batted first in this traditional declaration match. The visitors set a competitive target, scoring 191-8 before declaring after 50 overs. The match provided a stern test for the 1st XI, who competed exceptionally well against an experienced opposition line-up.

Year Nine pupil Jonah produced the standout performance of the day with both bat and ball. He spearheaded the RGS bowling attack with superb discipline, finishing with excellent figures of three wickets for 16 runs from four overs.

RGS then produced a determined performance with the bat. In a tense response, the team showed focus and composure as the match developed, working hard to stay in contention. Led by a top-scoring knock of 44 from Jonah, RGS finished on 173-9, showing composure in the final overs to secure a well-earned draw.

The fixture was played in an excellent spirit and offered valuable experience for the squad as they look ahead to the remainder of the season and the forthcoming RGS Schools’ Cricket Festival. We thank the MCC for visiting Flagge Meadow and congratulate the 1st XI on a committed performance.
