Partnership to Tackle Food Waste
This Thursday saw RGS Worcester tackle the important issue of food waste in a partnership initiative between our Catering department and the Environment Committee. The purpose is to drive the key message ‘Take what you eat, eat what you take’.
WRAP, a UK based charity leading sustainability quantifies the impact of food waste on the environment: “Around a third of the food produced globally is lost or wasted and it’s having a real impact on climate change, contributing 8–10% of total human-made greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.”
Catering Manager, Emma Megarity explains the School initiative: “There were various fun facts placed around School from Thursday breaktime, and the plan is to record food waste from each Year group and then re-record again after Half term. The idea is to see if the pupils can reduce their food waste. The Year group with the highest reduction in food waste will then get to select a menu day towards the end of the term!”
