Teamwork & Determination on Display at Severn Shield
RGS Worcester’s 1st and 2nd XI Girls’ Hockey teams demonstrated skill, teamwork and determination as they faced King’s School Worcester in the annual Severn Shield fixture on Wednesday 14 October.
Hosted by King’s School at the pitch at Bishop Perowne School, the event brought together players, staff, families and supporters for an evening of competitive Hockey and friendly rivalry.
The 2nd XI opened proceedings with a confident, well-drilled performance to secure an impressive 5–0 victory. Led by Co-Captains Liv and Nell, the team worked effectively together from defence through to attack, with every player contributing to the result. Immy earned special recognition for her outstanding performance.
Led out by Hockey Captain Isla, the 1st XI contested another closely fought encounter for the Severn Shield. An early goal gave King’s the advantage, but RGS responded with determination, producing a strong team performance throughout. The Upper Sixth players deserved particular recognition for their contribution, helping the team maintain their challenge throughout the match.
RGS created several opportunities to equalise and continued to apply pressure until the final whistle. Despite their efforts, the team could not find a breakthrough, with King’s retaining the trophy following a narrow 1–0 victory.
The 1st XI now look ahead to continuing their Independent Schools Cup campaign, having recently secured victories over Shrewsbury and Trent to reach the third round.
Our thanks go to King’s School Worcester for hosting this year’s event and to the families, staff and supporters who cheered on both RGS teams throughout the evening.
