Sport, Leadership & Partnership Across the Community
RGS Worcester has continued to strengthen its Educational Partnerships programme this term, bringing together local school leaders and pupils through two recent events focused on Sport and Physical Education.
More than 70 Senior Leaders from primary schools across the local district attended a breakfast briefing at RGS Worcester led by Kate Thornton-Bousfield, Chief Executive Officer of the Association for Physical Education (afPE). The session followed strong interest generated by Kate’s keynote address at the Worcestershire PE Conference hosted by RGS in June.
During the briefing, Kate shared important updates on developments within Physical Education, including changes to the national curriculum, the new Enrichment Framework and plans for the National PE and School Sport Network. The event provided local school leaders with an opportunity to hear directly about developments within the sector and consider how these may shape Physical Education provision within their own schools.
The programme continued on Thursday, when RGS welcomed 45 Years Eight and Nine pupils from Nunnery Wood High School, Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College and Christopher Whitehead Language College for a Rugby Festival at Flagge Meadow.
Led by members of the RGS Rugby team and supported by RGS Sports Leaders, the visiting pupils took part in a skills-based coaching session before putting their learning into practice during a triangular tournament. The festival brought pupils from three local schools together to practise their Rugby skills and enjoy competitive matches at Flagge Meadow.
Together, the two events demonstrated the different ways RGS Worcester works with local schools, from supporting professional development for teachers to providing practical sporting experiences for pupils.
Our thanks go to Kate Thornton-Bousfield, the visiting school leaders and pupils and all RGS staff and students who contributed to both events.
