Performing Shakespeare: An Opportunity for Years Seven to Nine
Pupils in Years Seven, Eight and Nine are being invited to take part in the Performing Shakespeare Competition, offering an exciting opportunity to explore Shakespeare through performance and develop confidence, creativity and oracy skills.
Whether already a keen performer or trying acting for the first time, pupils can choose either a monologue or duologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and prepare it for performance. With everything from comedy to tragedy to choose from, there is plenty of scope for pupils to find a character or scene that inspires them.
Support will be available from the English and Drama Departments as pupils prepare their entries, including dedicated Friday lunchtime sessions in Studio 2. Those taking part will have the opportunity to develop their performance skills in a friendly and supportive environment, with the possibility of progressing further in the competition and representing the School at the Grand Final.
Pupils interested in taking part should begin choosing and preparing their piece ready for the start of next Half term. Further information can be found on the Performing Shakespeare Competition Showbie class (code E73T9J), or pupils can speak to their English or Drama teacher. Friday lunchtime sessions will take place in Studio 2 from 1.40pm to 2.10pm.
