RGS Rowers Impress at Bridgnorth Regatta
RGS Worcester rowers produced an excellent set of results at Bridgnorth Regatta, securing five victories across a demanding day of racing.
Despite significant delays throughout the Regatta, which resulted in crews spending extended periods on the water between races, pupils approached the challenges with determination and resilience. From Year Nine through to Sixth Form, rowers remained focused and committed throughout a long day of competition, producing a series of impressive performances against strong opposition.
The first victory came in the Junior 18 Coxed Four, where Sihan, Oliver, Cooper and Zac, coxed by Sophie, defeated a crew from Royal Shrewsbury School. The result was particularly encouraging given Shrewsbury’s strength in sweep rowing events.
Billie then secured victory in the Junior 18 Single Sculls, overcoming a competitive field that included fellow RGS rowers Sam and Peter, alongside opposition from Royal Shrewsbury School.
Later in the day, Oliver and Cooper combined to claim a second victory, winning the Junior 18 Double Sculls with another strong performance.
The Junior 14 Coxed Quad B crew of George, Rory, Sean and Will, coxed by James, enjoyed an impressive run through the competition. After progressing through heats against both RGS and Royal Shrewsbury crews, they met Northwich in the final and produced an excellent race to secure the win.
The final victory of the day came from Matti in the Junior 18 Single Sculls. After overcoming administrative confusion following his semi-final, Matti returned to the water and won his final convincingly by several lengths to complete a memorable day for the Boat Club.
The Regatta presented a number of challenges, but pupils demonstrated resilience, patience and excellent team spirit throughout. Congratulations to all rowers and coxes involved on an impressive day of racing and a superb set of results.
