Young Fashion Designer UK National Success for RGS Worcester Pupils
RGS Worcester pupils enjoyed outstanding success at this year’s Young Fashion Designer UK (YFDUK) National Final, a prestigious competition celebrating talented young designers from across the country.
The standard of this year’s competition was exceptionally high, with more than 250 entries submitted from over 40 schools in the Midlands region alone. Judges commented on both the volume and quality of entries received, making the achievements of RGS Worcester pupils particularly impressive.
In the Year Nine category, Dotti and Kate were both awarded Highly Commended, recognising the creativity and quality of their design work in a highly competitive field.
Joyce was selected as one of just four students from across the Midlands and North of England to progress to the National Final in her category. Following a successful interview and presentation process, Joyce was awarded Highly Commended overall, an excellent achievement against some of the strongest young designers in the competition.
Ruby also progressed to the National Final in the Year Nine category and was named the overall Winner. Her striking outfit, created entirely from recycled ties, impressed the judging panel with its originality, craftsmanship and sustainability. Ruby’s design sheets demonstrated exceptional attention to detail and presentation, while her confident explanation of the concept and development of her work during the interview process further distinguished her entry from a very strong field of finalists. The judges described her as a very deserving winner among an exceptionally talented group of young designers.
Prizes were sponsored by Sewing Street TV Channel and presented following a day of creative activity and celebration. As part of the event, finalists took part in a textile workshop, producing their own pieces of Sashiko-inspired textile art, and enjoyed a portfolio presentation from two previous competition winners who have since gone on to establish successful careers as a Fashion Designer and Fashion Show Producer
Head of Textiles, Mrs J Bishop, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our pupils who took part. The standard of work on display was exceptional and the judges were overwhelmed by both the quality and creativity of the entries. To receive this level of recognition at a national competition is a fantastic achievement.”
Congratulations to Ruby, Joyce, Dotti and Kate for their success and for representing RGS Worcester so impressively. Their achievements reflect the creativity, dedication and talent that continue to thrive within Textiles at RGS Worcester.
