Drama Dinner Celebrates a Year of Performance and Achievement
RGS Worcester recently held its first ever Drama Dinner, bringing together 47 GCSE pupils and A Level students alongside members of the Drama Department to celebrate a year of performance and achievement.
The event was led by Lower Sixth student Molly Dufty, who came up with the idea and organised the evening in collaboration with Mr Garrity. The programme included music selected for the occasion and a projection of photographs from past productions, creating a fitting backdrop for the dinner and awards.
Molly was joined by Drama Captains Abi Walter and Mary Laney in hosting the evening, as pupils and staff came together to reflect on the many productions, performances and shared moments from across the year.
Reflecting on the event, Molly said: “It was so wonderful to plan this dinner and even more rewarding to see it come to life. The Drama Department is such an important part of the School, and it was a privilege to celebrate the achievements of both students and staff. I am very grateful for the opportunity and hope the event continues in future years.”
At the centre of the evening was the awards presentation, with categories including Most Improved Performer, Director’s Choice, Most Dramatic and Most Likely to End Up on Broadway. A number of light-hearted awards also recognised memorable moments from rehearsals and productions.
The evening also gave pupils and students the opportunity to show their appreciation for the Drama Department. In particular, messages of thanks and reflection were shared for Director of Drama Mrs Witcomb, who will be leaving the School at the end of the academic year. This was an incredibly meaningful moment in the evening, recognising her contribution to Drama and the impact she has had on many pupils during her time at RGS Worcester.
Teacher of Drama, Mr Garrity, commented: “The evening was a wonderful way to recognise the achievements, productions and commitment of our pupils and students. It highlights the important role Drama plays in developing confidence, teamwork and a willingness to take creative risks.”
Our thanks to the Holroyd Howe Catering team for providing a lovely dinner. Congratulations to Molly, Abi and Mary for leading the evening and to all those involved in making the event such a memorable occasion.
