Football, Friendship and Familiar Faces at Alumni Tournament
On Saturday 28 March, the annual Old Elizabethan Football Tournament returned to Flagge Meadow, bringing together former pupils from across the years for a day of competitive sport and good company. With nine teams taking part in a round-robin format, the Tournament offered a lively programme of fixtures played in excellent conditions, with the sunshine providing a fitting backdrop.
The day was organised by Head of Football, Mr Leeds, with pitches prepared to a high standard by Head Groundsman Mr Lloyd and the Grounds team, ensuring an excellent playing surface throughout. Teams included Coral, Bob Marley’s Wailers, RomaRGS, SGM FC, Zut Alors and Unfulfilled Potential, alongside two sides representing the Class of 2025: 25anddrive and RomaRGS.
After a series of closely contested matches, 25anddrive, made up of members of the Class of 2025, emerged as overall winners. The team comprised Haydn Parkes, Jimmy Barry, Jay Bennett, Will Edgehill, Harry Edwards, Flynn Little, James Rhodes, Oliver Shelton and Charlie Stanley, who delivered an impressive set of performances across the day.
A staff team also took to the pitch, competing well throughout, while a particularly special highlight was the return of the Class of 1986. Having taken part last year, they were delighted to return as they mark the 40th anniversary of leaving the School.
The day provided a wonderful opportunity for Old Elizabethans to reconnect, with players and spectators enjoying the chance to catch up and revisit Flagge Meadow. It was particularly special to see the Class of 1986 continuing their 40-year celebrations, with many set to reunite again at the OE Dinner in September.
Our thanks go to all who took part in making the Tournament such an enjoyable occasion and we look forward to welcoming even more OEs back in the future. To find out more about upcoming Foundation events, please visit: https://www.rgswandaos.foundation/events
